Financial Coach

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Financial Coach will be responsible for coaching and counseling clients, keeping accurate client records, and reporting relevant numbers to the Financial Education Manager. They will also be responsible for creating and teaching financial education materials to diverse groups of individuals, marketing and directing the Individual Development Account (IDA) program, and assisting with the day-to-day needs of the financial education line of business.  

SUPERVISOR:

The Financial Coach reports to the Financial Education Program Manager  

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teach financial education classes (in person and virtual), including Individual Development Accounts (IDA) specific courses and other courses as needed/capacity allows (1-2 sets per month with occasional miscellaneous workshops)

Manage IDA program 

  • Train clients in financial literacy as required by the IDA program

  • Send and review IDA application and documents

  • Enroll savers 

  • Manage current savers 

  • Facilitate cash outs for IDA graduates

  • Keep up to date with EDI reports 

  • Clean up/update the Outcome Tracker and work instructions 

  • Connect with IDA clients regularly to track progress

  • Meet with IDA clients quarterly for financial counseling check-in

Coach IDA clients and non-IDA clients 

  • Focus will be on IDA clients; will meet with other clients as capacity allows

  • Train new employees in IDA processes as needed 

  • Create/update IDA presentation and marketing materials as needed

  • Reach out to current/potential referral partners and maintain good relationships with them 

  • Participate and coordinate IDA program promotional efforts and marketing

  • Report monthly numbers to supervisor for grant reporting as requested

  • Meet weekly, or as requested with the supervisor for check-ins

  • Assist with community outreach (tabling, events, workshops, presentations, etc.) as needed

COMPLIANCE:

Ensure reporting for donors, NeighborWorks America®, & government entities are completed timely and accurately.

ORGANIZATION DEVELOPMENT

  • Recognize and follow trends in the community to advise NWSL on emerging issues; identify potential responses and assistance.

  • Connect with co-workers to maintain current and accurate information regarding NWSL programs, services, and events.

  • Attend community meetings and gatherings to promote NWSL, including but not limited to, community council meetings, school and PTA meetings, neighborhood fairs and events, business functions, etc.

  • Interact with community groups, schools, businesses, government agencies, and others to promote NWSL

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited four-year college or university, or commensurate employment experience.

  • Study for and complete the Certified Personal Financial Counselor certification examination (within 3 months of hire) and complete continuing education as required.

  • Knowledge of and experience in effectively working with individuals from a variety of age groups, ethnic backgrounds, and income levels.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with exceptional grammar proficiency.

  • Experience with teaching personal financial management principles, including budgeting, saving, credit, and debt management.

  • Strong computer skills: ability to use full Microsoft Suite and Adobe products.

  • Salesforce experience or willingness to develop Salesforce skills.

  • Proven track record in the establishment and maintenance of positive and effective working relationships with all levels of professional peers, employees, community members, and volunteers.

  • Ability to speak with diverse groups and represent NWSL at various functions.

  • Experience with budgeting and record keeping.

  • Basic accounting knowledge.

  • Strong computer skills; advanced skills with Microsoft and Adobe products.

  • Bilingual skills are highly desirable.

  • Must be available to work on various evenings or weekends.

HOURS & COMPENSATION:

  • Full-time position, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Benefits included.

  • Salary $34,000 - $37,000 per year

  • Job Type: Full-time

  • Expected hours: 40 per week
