POSITION TITLE: YouthWorks Site Supervisor

SALARY RANGE: $22.00 per hour
Part-time

POSITION OVERVIEW:

YouthWorks™ is a community based pre-employment and leadership development program for high school students ages 14-18. YouthWorks™ is a prevention program that provides youth with employment skills and social skills, while earning a bi-weekly stipend.

The YouthWorks™ Site Supervisor will act as the aid to the YouthWorks™ Program Manager and will provide oversight of up to fourteen youth in entry-level construction, community service, and community beautification projects. The YouthWorks™ Site Supervisor’s primary responsibilities include overseeing the implementation of technical training, project management, and project development.

A key component of the YouthWorks™ program is to provide youth with mentorship and support as they develop a general understanding of career opportunities that are available to them. The Site Supervisor will provide youth with guidance and support as youth learn about potential career opportunities.

To ensure that youth are successful when entering the workforce, YouthWorks™ provides youth with social skills courses that stress the importance of healthy relationships, analytical and critical thinking, budgeting, and how to avoid risky behaviors. The Site Supervisor is responsible for assisting the YouthWorks™ Program Manager and presenters in providing appropriate input during social skills courses.

The ideal candidate for this position would have the ability to mentor youth in both the technical and social skills components of the program. The YouthWorks™ Site Supervisor reports directly to the YouthWorks™ Program Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technical Training

  • Execute patience and understanding with youth as they learn new employment skills

  • Ensures work site safety and assists in conducting classes on safety procedures

  • Sets standards for appropriate behavior according to program expectations and code of conduct to youth in the pre-employment training program

  • Set standards for appropriate behavior and conducts training on site for conflict resolution

  • Assists in developing the construction costs breakdown

  • Assist in various basic construction skills training such as: excavation, demolition, painting, flooring work, concrete work, framing (rough and finish), hanging sheet rock; and other community beautification projects such as: graffiti removal, art murals, neighborhood clean-up and tree planting

  • Assists in on-site construction training for staff and youth participants

  • Must be willing to learn or able to read and interpret building blueprints

  • Assist in maintaining/repair of YouthWorks™ van including tools and equipment

Project Management

  • Monitors project costs and timelines

  • Assists in conducting and participating in the group sessions

  • Assists in promoting teamwork and project completion

  • Assist in ordering supplies and materials

Project Development

  • Assist YouthWorks Program Manager in developing potential projects

  • Assist in marketing and program development efforts

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are highly desirable.

  • Ability to work with diverse populations

  • Act as a leader and mentor to promote and develop leadership skills in youth

  • Demonstrated ability to train and teach basic construction skills

  • Good written skills

  • Ability to negotiate controversial matters, excellent communication skills

  • Good conflict resolution skills

SCHEDULE:

  •  Part-time 15-20 hours a week Monday-Thursday

  • Summer hours are 7am-12:30pm; during the school year the hours are 2:00pm-7:30pm
