SALARY RANGE: $155,000 - $175,000 per year

POSITION OVERVIEW:
NeighborWorks Salt Lake (NWSL) is a 47-year-old nonprofit based in Salt Lake City, Utah, committed to community transformation through affordable housing, economic development, and neighborhood revitalization. NWSL is seeking a visionary leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and continue its legacy of community impact.
ABOUT NEIGHBORWORKS SALT LAKE (NWSL):
Founded in 1977 as Salt Lake Neighborhood Housing Services, NWSL was initially established to combat blight in local neighborhoods. In 2007, it became a chartered member of NeighborWorks America (NWA) and expanded its mission to include youth development, leadership training, and financial support for community development organizations across the U.S. NWSL is dedicated to empowering individuals and families by providing safe, affordable housing, creating economic opportunities, and fostering vibrant, thriving communities.

NWSL operates in three key areas:
Affordable Housing Development: NWSL is a leader in creating affordable, high-quality housing for Salt Lake City residents.
Community Development: NWSL revitalizes neighborhoods through investments in infrastructure, public spaces, and services that improve quality of life.
Economic Development: NWSL partners with local businesses, financial institutions, and government agencies to drive local economic growth, create jobs, and offer workforce development programs.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The CEO will lead NWSL in its mission to transform communities and empower individuals. This role involves strategic oversight of operations, financial sustainability, program implementation, and team management. The CEO will report to the Board of Directors and collaborate with stakeholders to achieve organizational goals. The CEO will oversee NWSL’s $5 million annual budget and $50 million balance sheet.
Executive Leadership and Organizational Management
The CEO will provide visionary leadership, ensuring NWSL’s programs align with its mission and strategic goals. Responsibilities include:
Leading the organization in a transparent, inclusive manner that supports mission-driven outcomes.
Developing and executing the strategic vision for growth and community impact, in alignment with the Board’s direction.
Overseeing staff management, team-building, and professional development to ensure NWSL attracts and retains top talent.
Monitoring organizational performance and adjusting strategies to ensure sustainability and success.
Board Governance and Leadership
The CEO will work closely with NWSL’s Board of Directors, supporting their oversight role and ensuring effective governance. This includes:
Communicating regularly with the Board to provide updates on key metrics and recommendations.
Ensuring implementation of Board policies, fostering a collaborative environment between staff and Board members.
Aligning the Board’s vision with organizational goals to maintain strong governance.
Financial Management and Sustainability
The CEO is responsible for maintaining NWSL’s financial health and sustainability. This includes:
Overseeing the preparation and management of the annual budget, ensuring resource allocation aligns with strategic goals.
Leading fundraising initiatives, including identifying new funding sources and cultivating relationships with donors.
Managing financial audits, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
Ensuring financial stability by maintaining healthy cash flow and securing new funding sources.
Lending and Loan Portfolio Management
As a CDFI (Community Development Financial Institution), NWSL provides loans to Community Development Corporations (CDCs) and affordable housing developers. The CEO will:
Oversee the loan portfolio, ensuring loan policies are followed and repayments are timely.
Manage the Loan Committees, ensuring transparency in decision-making.
Provide technical assistance to borrowers, ensuring successful loan outcomes.
Monitor the loan pipeline and manage loan workouts when necessary.
Revenue Generation and Fundraising
The CEO will lead efforts to secure funding to support NWSL’s programs. This includes:
Identifying and cultivating new funding sources, including individual donors, foundations, and government agencies.
Leveraging Board relationships to support fundraising efforts.
Developing and executing strategies for donor engagement, grant writing, and special events.
Advocating for policies supporting affordable housing and community development at the local, state, and national levels.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nonprofit management, community development, and financial stewardship. Required qualifications include:
Ten years of leadership experience in nonprofit organizations, CDFIs, or similar sectors, with proven success in strategic planning, financial management, and fundraising.
Experience in affordable housing, community development, and economic revitalization, with a track record of leading similar-sized organizations to greater impact.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
A deep understanding of the challenges facing underserved communities and a passion for addressing those needs.
Experience working with diverse communities, including local governments, residents, and businesses.
WHAT WE OFFER:
Competitive salary: $155,000 - $175,000
